Les Leopold himself is no small scratch as a writer -- see his book about the Tony Mazocchi (Spelling?) which is a great read and important history. So here he is, pumping Hamilton Nolan's book which is a GOOD THING and I really like the angle he is taking on it. This is one good book writer spreading good news about another -- younger! - book writer.
I was down w/ flu for the last few days during which I read Kirsten Downey's book on Frances Perkins and the New Deal. An era when the D party leadership did as much as was possible for the labor movement. In contrast to the current neolib D elite that doesn't want to upset their corporate sponsors by acting in any way that could be construed as overtly pro labor.
Organizing, whether political or union, has always been difficult and risky. Far worse today; the young are brave to be doing so with such little support! And despite a system that has enabled the very few to have practically unlimited leverage.
Buckminster Fuller once said that humans generally do the right thing--after they've tried everything else. The right thing is to fight for working people and our right to organize. Let's hope this happens before the sick econ system with its inhumane lust destroys the planet.
Thanks. That boy can write.
